Doctors of Osteopathy are fully licensed physicians practicing in every healthcare
specialty throughout the United States. DO’s are also trained in the safe and
gentle practice of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT).
DO’s and MD’s are both fully licensed physicians able to practice without limitations.
Osteopaths and Chiropractors are both trained to perform manipulation. However, OMT
(Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment) and Chiropractic adjustments are different.
Chiropractors have less education and training and are not licensed to prescribe drugs
or perform surgery. For more information on this topic visit our Credentials of a DO section.
Most people in Western cultures tend to associate certain therapies as helping only certain
health problems. Osteopathy’s reach is nearly unlimited because it works to strengthen and
restore the body’s own powerful healing ability. All cells of the body require nutrients,
waste removal, and nerve communication to function properly. When the body can do these tasks
unencumbered, it is healthier. Osteopaths free up these pathways, allowing the body to do
what it does best-heal and maintain itself..
Wear comfortable loose fitting clothes or bring them with you. Try to avoid jeans and perfumes. Visit our
New Patients section for more information on this
topic and information about your massage or osteopathic appointment..
There are many DO’s practicing primary care and general medicine. However, here at IOM our
DO’s specialize and are board certified in Neuromuscular Medicine and OMM (Osteopathic
Manipulative Medicine). We are happy to work side by side with your PCP for the most comprehensive
medical care.
Your consultation and osteopathic manipulation will be covered by insurance most of the time.
Your osteopathic consultation will process toward your specialist physician benefit. Osteopathic
Manipulation is considered a medical procedure. This medical procedure will usually process
toward your major medical benefits. We recommend you either contact our office or contact your
insurance company prior to your appointment to check your benefits and make sure Insight Osteopathic
Medicine is in your preferred provider network. Please visit our
Insurance section for more information.
Massage is not always a covered benefit, it depends on your plan. It is always best to
check your benefits to see if your plan offers this coverage. We recommend you fill out our
insurance questionnaire or
contact our office so we can check your benefits
prior to your first scheduled appointment.
